BIOGRAPHY:

Karen Tinker is the Director of the Drug Free Workplace/DOT Division of The Council on Alcohol and Drugs. A vital part of Karen’s role with the Council is educating Georgia employers and employees on the benefits of working drug free. Karen also conducts in depth trainings for employees and supervisors relating to substance abuse prevention.

In addition to helping businesses understand the ins/outs of a state’s Drug Free Workplace program, Karen focuses on the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) drug and alcohol testing, training and compliance education. She conducts trainings nationwide for Designated Employer Representatives (DERs) who need help navigating the complicated federal rules and regulations as well as the differences when employers operate in multiple states.

Karen is a very personable presenter. Her energetic personality really shines through. While there is nothing funny about an employee or job applicant who is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Karen is able to pick up on the mood of her audience and get a sense of what the group will find funny. She is good at using humor to help employees and supervisors learn about the importance of maintaining a drug free workplace environment. She knows how to keep her audience engaged, using stories and anecdotes that resonate with participants.

Karen is also active in preventing marijuana abuse. Karen is active with Let’s Be Clear GA, a collaborative to prevent marijuana abuse and misuse in Georgia. She is also a committee member for DATIA’s marijuana outreach program for businesses. Karen has conducted many trainings for businesses and individuals across our state on the impact marijuana has on businesses as well as the difference between federal and state regulations.

Karen holds many industry certifications and is highly regarded as a trusted advisor and drug free workplace advocate who has a true passion for fighting the nation’s drug problem. Karen is an active member of many drug prevention organizations and volunteers as a youth coach and mentor.
